THE PRODUCER
THE PRODUCER
Sourced from small-holder coffee producers in fertile, mountainous Huila, “Melao” (a syrup made from melted panela sugar and water) was designed by specialty exporters Caravela to be a coffee dessert in a cup and we first savoured it in Bogota, Colombia. This is their wonderfully complex, decaf version.

CITY
BRIGHT, MODERN,
FRUIT-FORWARD FLAVOURS.
Melao is a 100% Pink Bourbon arabica blended from both washed and honey process methods. The key here is the Sugar Cane (EA) decaffeination method, where the specialty coffee beans are steamed and then rinsed for 10 hours in Ethyl Acetate, a natural compound derived from Colombian sugarcane and mountain water.
Please note we only hold a limited stock of these products, but we aim to roast at least two times a week (T&Cs apply)
How to brew
We normally lean toward filter brewing for the producer series as the method highlights the more complex and delicate flavours in lighter roasted coffee. As always, we default to the industry standard of 60g of coffee per litre of water as a starting point.
Tasting notes
A deliciously sweet and citrusy decaf with notes of panela sugar, lemon and caramel with a jammy finish. We wanted to showcase a single varietal decaf with bags of personality and this Pink Bourbon very much fits the bill. A silky texture, distinct, panela-like flavour and balanced acidity. Fantastic on pour over and batch brew as a comforting and chuggable, all-day coffee.
