How to find us

We’re in a pretty peaceful, rural location but we’re still very accessible.

Plentiful parking is available for cars onsite but we’d encourage a more adventurous way of reaching us; the Colne Valley is a fine place to visit with numerous walks, cycling routes (both road and mountain biking) and public transport options. In addition, the navigable Huddersfield Narrow Canal is just beside the Mill.

The Mill is located just off the main A62 Manchester Road between the villages of Marsden and Slaithwaite in the Colne Valley, near the town of Huddersfield. We’re only a relatively short journey from Leeds and Manchester.

From the Yorkshire side of the Pennines, head along the A62 from Huddersfield towards Oldham (or from Junction 24 of the M62). About a mile after Slaithwaite village, turn right onto West Slaithwaite road opposite the car garage and then left at the bottom into the Holme Mills site.

From the Lancashire side of the Pennines, head over on the A62 from Greater Manchester in the direction of Huddersfield/Leeds (or from Junction 22 of the M62 and via the villages of Denshaw and Delph.) About a mile after Marsden village, turn left onto West Slaithwaite road opposite the car garage and then left at the bottom into the Holme Mills site.

The towpath walk along the Huddersfield Narrow Canal between Marsden and Slaithwaite is particularly scenic, although boots and waterproofs are highly recommended when the weather is inclement. The Mill can be walked to in around 30-45 minutes from either village and you can find us across a short bridge at West Slaithwaite between Bank Nook Lock No.30E and White Hill Lock No. 29E or you can walk onto West Slaithwaite Road at Booth’s Bank Bridge No. 51.

Our rural location means that The Mill provides a great stop off point for those cycling in the Pennines and north Peak District between Huddersfield and Manchester, or even a base point for routes around the local area. We’re just off the A62 between Marsden and Slaithwaite.

The bus stop on the A62 Manchester Road at West Slaithwaite (number 45019378) is 5 minutes walk from the Mill, just down West Slaithwaite Road and into the Holme Mills site.

Bus numbers 183 and 185 to and from Huddersfield Bus Station and Marsden village stop here.

Additionally, the 184 bus between Manchester Piccadilly and Huddersfield stops on the A62 Manchester Road at both Marsden and Slaithwaite. Please consult the bus timetables before your journey as this service may also stop at West Slaithwaite.

You can wave to us down in the valley as you make your cross Pennines journey by train, but any localized Northern Rail train between Manchester, Huddersfield and Leeds that stops at Marsden station or Slaithwaite station provides a 30 minutes walk or a short bus or cycle ride from The Mill.

Both stations are part of the famous/infamous Transpennine Real Ale Trail..

Boasting the highest navigable waterway in Britain at its summit, the 23 mile Huddersfield Narrow Canal between Huddersfield and Ashton-Under-Lyne is not for the faint hearted, with 74 locks and 1 very long tunnel (Standedge Tunnel).

However, it is a very rewarding journey and there is a small mooring very close to us at West Slaithwaite between Bank Nook Lock No.30E and White Hill Lock No. 29E from the Huddersfield side of the Pennines.
